International Missions

Bless This Child started in 2000 after the Haiti earthquake as a sewing mission just for Haiti.  Once the UM MERCI center in Goldsboro closed, the BTC2_thumbnail.JPG (61x100)pxmission continued in various churches in Sanford. SAUMC joined the mission in 2012 and all participants help sew and bag outfits for boys and girls. Labels were designed in 2012 for each outfit that say “Bless This Child".  The original churches still participate from time to time and Plymouth Baptist and Fuquay Varina UM and Aversboro Baptist have joined this sewing mission in providing outfits and supplies for the mission.  Clothing has been sent with mission teams traveling to all parts of the world including: Bolivia, Honduras, Peru, Puerto Rico, Haiti, Guatemala, Kenya, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Uganda, Appalachia, eastern NC for Hurricane Matthew and where ever the members learn a need exists. Anyone is invited to participate as there is always something that a person can do to help the forgotten children of the world.

HI_medium.jpg (107x107)pxHeifer International gives gifts of cattle, sheep, rabbits, honeybees, pigs, llamas, water buffalo, heifers, chicks, ducks, goats, geese, other regionally appropriate livestock, as well as tree seedlings. As of 2010, these animals and plants have been distributed in more than 125 countries around the globe. Each gift furthers Heifer's interest in agroecology, sustainability and the environment.  Heifer International works to ensure that the gift of each animal will eventually help an entire community to become self-sustaining. Animals such as goats, water buffalo and camels are "seven M" animals: they provide meat, milk, muscle, manure, money, materials and motivation.

Saint Andrews has raised funds for a complete "Ark" of animals and the Vacation Bible School raised funds for a "Milk Menagerie".

Operation Christmas Child
: Each November (although we do “box seeding” early in the year) we have a Christmas party and fill shoeboxes with toys, school supplies, personal items, and other gifts.  These boxes are then distributed as Christmas gifts, accompanied by Christian literature, to children worldwide.
